Prognosis or Current State of
Vision
No central vision left eye. Right eye has distortion sometimes, not too bad but consistent.
Family History
Father, at 93, was having "wavy line" symptoms. Mother, cataracts in her 90's. No one else affected. My husband is blind and uses a beautiful guide dog, he has congenital cataracts and later, glaucoma. He is used to low vision and is able to be independent, reads a lot, restores antique cars and clocks.
Impact on My Life
I am probably ready to stop driving because it seems that there are areas where I assume I am seeing but apparently not.
Positive Effects
Made us think about our future and take hold of the fact that we are aging folks. I have to have faith that God is guiding us on this path for some reason.
Adaptations
My husband uses the Talking Book program, has WinEyes computer screen reader and Arkenstone reading system that scans materials and read it back. He uses an audible tape measure and level. He is very clever and loves to do puzzles.
Working
We are both retired.
More About Me
I sure appreciate how hard it is when one cannot see well...even with all the bells and whistles. I so admire the folks at MD Support. I was born in Michigan City, Indiana, and my husband and I are both almuni of Purdue University.
