Treatment
None. Except wearing sunglasses outdoors, RT4 Essilor lenses on bright days, and orange lenses on gray days. Also, Max-Sight orange contact lenses by Nike/Bausch and Lomb to play rugby.
Prognosis or Current State of
Vision
I manage pretty well doing all activities kids my age do. At school I sit in the front row and use the Flipper Panel by Enhanced Vision so I can see what's on the blackboard. I get enlarged papers at school. I'm a little slower to write so I get some more time for the tests, but I get good grades, and my parents are satisfied.
Family History
None that we know of. My parents never heard of Stargardt disease or any retinal disease running in their respective family, and it made it hard for them to accept the diagnosis at first.
Impact on My Life
Nothing particular. I have to cope with this until research will find a treatment to repair my degenerated cone cells. I am sure there will be a solution before I turn 18 so I can take my drivers licence.
Positive Effects
None
Adaptations
Low vision equipment. Zoomtext 9 for Internet.
Big TV screen, 24" PC monitor.
Employment
Still at school for quite a time!
More About Me
I love playing rugby, swimming, and playing video games (my Mum limits my playing video games. She says it is not good for me). I also love Harry Potter (films and books).
