Macular Degeneration

74

Visual Acuity
Left eye: 20/50 left with glasses. Right eye: have not been told.

Treatment
Diagnosed in January 2000. Was told I had dry MD. In 2001 my ophthalmologist said my eyes were holding and to see the optometrist. In 2002, saw retinal specialist and he made an appointment for a PDT the end of March. My eyes have held since then. But recently noticed that with left eye (good one) I am beginning to have trouble reading.

Prognosis or Current State of Vision
Right eye is wet and had PDT. Left eye is dry, but feel vision is changing.

Family History
None. An aunt, by marriage, had severe MD, and that was before any treatment was available.

Impact on My Life
I have tried to be upbeat. My husband does most of the driving. He will let me take the car alone, but worries all the while I am gone. I do not feel I have a problem driving.

Positive Effects
It has made me realize what my aunt went through. I can now sympathize with her, although she passed away 4 years ago. I am glad I was sympathic to her condition (some people were not).

Adaptations
I have started reading large print books. I am an avid reader. I can still read regular print, but the large print is so much better.

Working
Retired

More About Me
