Diagnosis
ARMD both eyes.

Eyes Affected
Left eye = Wet Right eye = Dry

Eye Color
Hazel

Age at Diagnosis
45

Visual Acuity
Left eye: 10/200, no central vision as a result of 5 laser procedures. Right eye: 20/65 with approx. 20% of central vision.

Treatment
Five laser procedures on left eye in 1995. Nothing on right eye so far to relieve fluid buildup behind retina.

Prognosis or Current State of Vision
Stable - improved some since last examination six months ago.

Family History
Mother diagnosed eight years after me with Wet MD in right eye. Too late for treatment when diagnosed.

Impact on My Life
Was forced to go on long term disability in Jan.'98. Could not continue to work as a construction engineering project manager after 34 years in business.

Positive Effects
Have started working as a volunteer assisting others that are visually impaired. Have found that this is more rewarding than any work that I have done in the past.

Adaptations
Use Ocutech telescopic glasses for driving in daylight only and watching TV. Use various magnifiers for reading and have ZoomText magnification software on computer. Prescription glasses are antireflective coated for elimination of glare.

Working
Volunteer work for Cleveland Sight Center and work online with low vision people.
