Visual Acuity
I don't know anymore - left was 20/400 corrected. Right may be corrected to 20/100 (Jan 2003).

Treatment
Presser Vision Ocuvite 2/day. Eye drops for lubrication only. One-lens (right) glasses for reading with magnification. Special right lens for driving only. Four different tints of wrap-around "shades" over glasses. Appointments with RS every six months.

Family History
No MD that I know of. Paternal grandparents, however, were dead in mid-fifties, and maternal grandfather died in 1918.

Impact on My Life
Tremendous!

Positive Effects
I was forced to slow down when nothing much else accomplished that which has helped with my head injury. Enjoy gardening in my "new home" for the first time. Enlarging group of caring people through MD Support and Commission for the Blind. Increased awareness of vision problems in society and how very slow society is responding architectually (ADA considerations). Voted to the regional advisory council for the Commission for the Blind.

Adaptations
Special glasses. Use of Parrot and other voice activated, programmable technology. Cane training (continues through August 2003). Independent Living specialist teaching me how to adapt, and be safe, etc. Learning to plan ahead before I do one thing, and assess the environment (weather, light, etc).

Working
No, due to traumatic brain injury. Receiving retirement disability (former associate dean and consultant).

More About Me
